Shell – Octane Demonstrator

Shell have modified a 4 cylinder VW Golf so that it can run on two different fuels at the same time. This dual fuel vehicle is used at events and demos to show how different fuels can be compared within the same vehicle.

Their modifications allow different cylinders within the engine to run on different fuels. Power measurements taken from each combustion chamber can also be visualised on-board the vehicle while the engine runs.

Working directly with the fuel engineers, we created a series of realistic 3D animated videos showing how the system works and where the crucial elements are within the vehicle. The video below was a compilation, used at the Festival of Speed.
